The MAS Mudsill Anchor is one of many types of mudsill anchors, used primarily for slab or concrete stem wall construction. Beyond the previously mentioned advantages to the framer, MAS is fast for the finisher – installation occurs before pouring concrete by nailing into form, or inserting into concrete after pour. There are no anchor bolts to hand trowel around, and no nuts or washers to lose. In a subcategory, the MASB is designed for installation on concrete masonry units and the new MASP is designed for panellized forms.
Mudsill anchors do share many installation properties with anchor bolts, however. Specifically, as with any concrete anchor, the need to be cautious of cold joints below the surface, within the embedment length of the anchor. Essentially the concrete could be “pushed” off by wedging/drilling into it.
One of the best features of the Simpson Strong-Tie MAS Mudsill Anchors is the ability to use them even when the concrete has spalled, provided the spall is less than 1 ¼ inch, and exposed anchor is protected against corrosion.
